The Library’s Story
The town says a Lakeside Public Library opened with 3,000 books in 1930; fire destroyed the collection in 1931 and the building in 1957. It reopened on school grounds in 1971, became a town department in 1985, and moved into today’s 5,760-square-foot building, built around the 1971 one, in 2000.
Pinetop-Lakeside in Numbers
Mormon pioneers founded the two settlements in the early 1880s; they incorporated as one town in 1984. The 2020 Census counted 4,030 people on 11.2 square miles. USGS puts the Lakeside end at about 6,740 ft and the Pinetop end at about 6,960 ft. The town calls itself part of the world’s largest stand of ponderosa pines.

Every pin here is an estimate, not a surveyed point. A place pin marked "estimated by eye" is our own guess at the spot (a lake, park or town middle); the others use a point from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors) for the named spot, which can still be off by a few blocks. Event pins sit at the center of the event's town, because we do not have each venue's exact spot. Distances are straight-line, rounded, and will not match driving miles. Dots sit in their compass direction; distance is stretched near the middle so close neighbors stay readable. Events are the next dates from our events calendar, as of October 23, 2026, and each date is the organizer's, not confirmed by us. The same places are listed beside the map.
